The opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists in our Bahamas team for a Cost Accountant. Reporting to the Director, Administration and Controller, the Cost Accountant will ensure the accurate and timely reporting and tracking of all feed material and inventories. This role provides accurate accounting and financial information to Management for analysis that assists in making business decisions.

This is an office-based role within a small, collaborative team, requiring flexibility to support tasks outside of core job, including providing occasional backup to the Finance as needed.

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Maintaining records related to the progression of shipments.
  • Calculating and arranging payment for settlements.
  • Tracking the entry of all shipments as they are recorded and ensuring the accurate tracking of all materials from shipping to finished goods.
  • Reconciling the booking of the costs of sales to the inventory tracking summary.
  • Reconciling the general ledger balances to the inventory tracking summary.
  • Reconciling the intercompany payables to a listing of outstanding invoices and agreeing this reconciliation to the counter party in the other entity.
  • Preparing all inventory reports.
  • Maintaining all accounts in good order and ensuring they are current.
  • Ensuring that all inventories are properly valued.
  • Reconciling all accounts and ensuring current balances are free of unreconciled items.
  • Ensuring that month-end responsibilities are met in line with the timetable issued.

Skills and attributes for success:

  • Degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Cost accounting experience, preferably gained in a manufacturing or commodity trading environment.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles, procedures and internal controls.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent analytical skills
